GKR South Australian Tournament Team

National Championships 2007

Day 6

A beautiful morning greeted us and a large group headed off to the City while a younger group headed off for Manly Beach. The "Daytripper Tickets" covered unlimited travel on Bus, Train and Ferry and as we discovered later, reduced admission to a lot of attractions. The Sydney public transport system seems to be fairly well organised with frequent buses, about every 20 minutes while the trains run about every 10 minutes. The train took us over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a first time for many and the view is incredible.

Getting off at Wynyard Station we walked down to Circular Quay for a Ferry around to Darling Harbour - certainly the best way to appreciate the Sydney Harbour views, with the Opera House, the Bridge, Luna Park, North Sydney, Sydney CBD and the many houses around the Harbour in easy view. There are three types of ferries that serve the inner harbour while a larger Ferry is used for the trip to Manley. Coming in to Darling Harbour, the Maritime Museum with its floating collection of historic vessels is a highlight. Time for a bite to eat, the group separated to visit their chosen attraction - some the Aquarium and others a walk to the Opera House.

The Beach Group had a great time, with the famous surf breaks allowing for a couple of hours body surfing for some while others took a walk around the beach and headland. Beau was just Beau. The views are quite spectacular, with some impressive scenery.  It was a tired bunch that came back but they still managed to get dolled up for Tea at the local RSL Club which provides free return transport for Park stayers.

That night, Daniel, Jeremy and Craig were invitees to Shihan's Black Belt Class. It was a 2 hour session which consisted of work on Kata Sepei and Kururunfa, followed by Kumite. A most worthwhile session which should assist in preparation for the oncoming NAS Tournament.
