Day 5

When you wake up in the middle of the night to driving rain, you know your plans for the day are in disarray. Still raining when everyone got up, even the local birdlife were not impressed, keeping under the shelter of the balconies. Some still headed off to the City with others deciding to wait it out. Late morning, it finally stopped raining and while it was good for the locals, it did dampen the spirits of the holidaymakers.

Going stir crazy, a group decided to visit the local cafe, rather uniquely situated in the local Cemetery - the Hot Furnace Cafe (not really). The usual jokes about we need to book as people are dying to get there, along with the joke about the gravedigger that was sacked for losing the plot perhaps put us in an inappropriate mood for the somber surrounds. With menu item suggestions added as we walked up to the Cafe, such as wood fired pizzas, or char grill steaks not on the menu, it was actually not too bad as we sat on the hill overlooking the surrounds. Following the walk back, three people who shall remain nameless decided to walk off the lunchtime calories under a cloudy sky.

Cheryl and Les had arrived and needed to go shopping so, I accompanied them, as Robin drove them to the local supermarket. It started to rain so I grabbed a couple of umbrellas to take back. halfway back, I got a call from Shaun, did I have the key to our Cabin as someone was rather wet and needed to get changed. Yes the walkers were all thoroughly drenched in the downpour. The umbrellas worked as there hasn't been any rain since.

Robin had received an invitation from the local Region 1 Manager Sensei Peter Durant for the TT members to attend Tuesday night Senior Training. Thirteen students and three spectators made the short trip to the Dojo to join in on training. The Region 1 people were very friendly and several came across to introduce themselves and have a chat. Training followed the "red book" class format with basics done forward and back in stance. Kicks were done in stages followed by a kick punch combo for each kick in a tournament style. The TT members present performed strongly on the night and all showed strong technique. A few rounds of kumite followed with the TT members performing well. A highlight was Sensei Peter sparring Daniel with both showcasing their expertise and experience. Kata followed a quick break with each person selecting one kata to work on a couple of times, within a kata group. Following the bow out, all present gathered together for a group photo and a chat after the class.
