Day 3

The Barbeque

Took a while for the majority of people to get going on the Sunday morning after the late night before and it was late morning when the Catering Party of Paul, Ray, Jenny, Tegan and Peter headed off to purchase the food and refresh the drink supplies. Fortunately the Shopping Centre was only a few kilometers away and the map supplied by the Park had clear directions. That is until we came upon road works and a detour. However our human GPS found a quick way to get to our destination and the shopping began.

The Butcher was especially pleased to see Paul once he heard the meat order. Into the Supermarket, the Greengrocer, back to the Butcher and then the BWS and the shopping was done. Time to return and it was an uneventful trip, except when Paul decided to stop at a couple of Petrol Stations to see if the elusive bottle of Soda Water for Mother Mary could be bought. A quick trip up someone's driveway so complete a 3 point turn for the first stop and then the attempt to cut across three turning lanes to pull into the second Servo was to no avail. We decided we would give Mary a bottle of water and a straw and tell her to blow bubbles.

The Park has a great BBQ area near the Cabins so early afternoon, after the plates were cleaned, cooking commenced. Jenny, Mary and others prepared some great freshly made salads and when the meat was nearly ready all were present. The cooks did a great job with the thick Scotch Fillets and everyone enjoyed the food, wine and other drinks. After the meal was finished, Robin made a congratulations and thank you speech to all present for the efforts on the Tournament Floor and also to the support crew. The funds for this BBQ were part of the proceeds from the BBQs at the SA GKR Tournaments, with the remainder being used for the Tournament Team Breakup BBQ on Sunday week. Shaun and Russell McQ decided to try out the effectiveness of the TKD body armour that Robin bought last week. A few kicks to the stomach proved that they were effective and they the two boys decided to do a bit of sparring. Naturally the techniques were not as focused as normal and Russ managed to kick Shaun's elbow with his shin and spent the next hour or two hobbling or hopping around. But all was good and they hugged and made up. Bit of fun and it will be interesting to see how they are integrated into training next year.

Afternoon turned into evening, a few more bottles were opened and people gradually filtered off, with the usual gathering on one of the balconies for a nightcap. The wildlife certainly comes out at night in the Park and do not have any fear for the people around, sauntering close by and right up to the Cabins. One possum even came up and sat on Crystal's lap for a while. Time to go to sleep came for a few people a bit earlier than they thought, as dozing in company, resulted in instant photo taking.
