17/05/2010: Tournaments and State Team Honour Roll

A busy time coming up for our State Team members, with three consecutive weekends of Tournaments in June. First up is the GKR Tournament, then an AKF Open Tournament, with the third being Round 2 of NAS.

The Second GKR State Tournament for 2010 is to be held on Sunday 6th June at Nazareth College, 1 Hartley Rd., Flinders Park. Entry Forms are available from your Dojo Sensei, with the closing date for entries being Tuesday 1st of June. Catering will once again be arranged by the National squad and all proceeds will assist members in attending Interstate Tournaments. Selected members of the National Squad will be competing at the Australian Karate Federation Open Tournament on Saturday 12th June at the Virginia Community Recreation Centre, Old Port Wakefield Rd, Virginia. This will be the first time for most competitors to compete at this level and will also be valuable competition for those competing in Japan later this year. Round 2 of the NAS Competition is on Sunday 20th June at the Campbelltown Leisure Centre. The full squad will be competing at this event and another good result is expected. Please come along and support the squad at these Tournaments. Further details available from State Team Coach Sensei Jeremy Thompson or National Squad members.

The State Team Honour Roll has been updated to include all National/World Cup Winners since 2001. During this 9 year period, State Team members have won 23 NAS National Championships, made up of 4 Kata, 11 Kumite and 8 Team events. At GKR Australian Championships, Team members have won 18 Titles, consisting of 11 Kata events and 7 Kumite events. At GKR World Cups, there have been three titles won, one kata and two Kumite. In the only JKF Australian Championships attended, two Kumite titles were won, with 3 qualifiers for the World Championships in Japan. All up 46 Titles to South Australian State Team members, with a few members also winning events whilst not members of the Team. The magic 50 should be achieved in 2010.
