Sensei Mark Case VisitAlways looked forward to, ZD Sensei Mark Case presided over a combined Senior Class at Blackfriar's Priory School on Thursday 18th March. A large class, which included the R9 STP students, were treated to yet another variation of partner work combined with basics, kata and kumite. Full details here.... |

GKR State Tournament, NAS Round 1March is Tournament Month with NAS Round 1 on Sunday 14th and GKR Round 1 on Sunday 28th. Entry forms for the GKR Tournament are now available from your Dojo Sensei. Mid Year Black Belt AssessmentA large group was in attendance for the mid year Assessment as not only was Sensei Mark Case attending, but also Shihan Stacey Karetsian and Sensei Gavin Samen. The grading followed a slightly different format to normal, with Sensei Gavin taking most of the students for partner work, while the Grading panel watched the Kata and Kumite of the Grading students. NAS Round 2Another great Tournament for the GKR SA State Team at Round 2 of the NAS circuit, with all competitors performing well. The highlight of the day was the Sparring final between Jalen Croxton and Jasmine Harford, which received tremendous vocal support from the large audience. AKF South Australian Open TournamentEight members of the State Team competed in the recent Australian Karate Federation South Australian Open Tournament, with team members picking up four medals. Top performer on the day was Jason Spiteri, winning the 11-12 years Kumite. Full results, report and photos here..... |

GKR State Tournament Round 2Plenty of great action for Round 2 of the GKR State Tournament Season, with some excellent GKR Karate on display by both Juniors and Seniors. 13/08/2010 - Cream bun or shin bun? I haven't bought a copy of the GKR Shimbun for about three years but decided to buy the latest edition to read the kata (形 or 型, かた, ka-ta) bunkai (分解, ぶんかい, bu-n-ka-i), or kata analysis, article. Flicking through the pages I came across an article on Advanced Terminology (page 41) with a pronunciation guide and was reminded of one of the reasons I stopped buying the Shimbun. 06/08/2010 - Romanes eunt domus People called Romans they go to the house. In the above scene from Monty Python's Life of Brian the hero, Brian, is discovered painting graffiti on a wall by a Roman soldier. Brian's attempt to translate "Romans go home" into Latin is a dismal failure and the Roman soldier proceeds to give Brian a lesson in Latin grammar and verb conjugation. 30/06/2010 - Goo Sandwich Subway are currently running TV commercials for their "wagoo" sub. That's "wa" as in "wag" and "goo" as in yucky stuff. Doesn't sound very appetising. |
