12/01/2012: Shihan ClassOnce again the Instructers of Region 9 and Region 23 benefitted from Shihan Stacy Karetsian spending a few weeks early in the New Year back home in Adelaide with family. It is an ideal opportunity for him to catch up with the locals and take a Combined Senior Class. It may have been only the second week back training, but around 50 Instructors, including over 30 Black Belts, from Region 9 and Region 23 attended the session at Secombe High School Gym. SA State Team Tryouts 2012 Season An invitation is extended to all South Australian GKR students to attend the State Team Enrolment Days on Sunday 19th and 26th February at Adelaide High School, West Terrace, Adelaide, commencing at 6pm. Any GKR Student, regardless of age or grade can train with the team and enter Tournaments upon selection. More information here..... |

Black Belt GradingsAs usual, there were 2 Black Belt asesessments in 2011 and in all one student graded to Nidan, 11 students moved on to Shodan and 10 students gained their Shodan-ho rank. For a brief report on each grading and plenty of photos, go here...... |

NAS Australian ChampionshipsThe 2011 NAS Australian Championships were held in the Gold Coast over the weekend of 3-4th December. Unlike previous titles at the Gold Coast, it was a small team of only 17 GKR competitors that were part of the South Australian Team. The traditional State by State march in was followed by welcoming speeches by NAS Vice President and Host State Director Jim Casey. Full Results and plenty of Photos here..... |

GKR Australian ChampionshipsThe 2011 GKR National Championships were held in the regular Sydney venue, the Whitlam Centre, in Campbelltown. The usual formalities of State by State march-in, bow-in and welcoming speeches by Kancho and the Tournament organisers opened the day. A great result for South Australia with 11 National Championships, best ever. Full Results and plenty of Photos here..... |

GKR State ChampionshipsAn excellent entry for the GKR South Australian State Championships for 2011. Entries were strong throughout the age groups and grade divisions. It was with anticipation that competitors lined up for the bow in and following the usual formalities competition began in the 4 rings with the junior grades. 11/04/2011 - Short Wear Is No Joke In an earlier blog entry I explained the meaning of gedan (下段, げだん, ge-da-n) as "low(est) level". The other two levels we use in GKR are chūdan (中段, ちゅうだん, chu-u-da-n) and jōdan (上段, じょうだん, jo-u-da-n). These literally mean middle level and upper level although we mostly use the terms stomach level and head level which is how these levels relate to the human body.
